The Supreme Court of India has ordered an independent probe into the Tirumala Laddu controversy. The decision was made during a hearing on Friday before Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan.
Justice Gavai ordered the formation of an independent committee to investigate the matter. While the Solicitor General informed the court that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was already probing the case, the Supreme Court insisted on an independent committee.
The committee will consist of five officials: two from the Central Bureau of Investigation, two from the state government, and one from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Justice Gavai recommended including an FSSAI official due to their expertise in food testing.
Interestingly, the independent team will be incorporated into the SIT. The Supreme Court has issued an order to this effect.
