There is a famous saying that the Law is blind and does not have eyes but only ears. The notion has changed as the Supreme Court of India has introduced a new version of the ‘Lady Justice’ statue, reflecting a departure from colonial influences. To advocate the modern vision of justice, the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and his team incorporated changes to the statue and erected a new one.
The redesigned statue is winning appreciation for the thoughtful changes that went into making it. The notable change is shedding the blindfold. The following are the four major changes done to the statue.
— The blindfold is removed, ensuring clear and unbiased legal proceedings
— Instead of the sword in the hands of Lady Justice, the latest statue will see the Indian Constitution.
— The scales remain the same to symbolize the fairness in justice being delivered.
— The statue dons a saree now, reflecting the Indian traditions
