YCP general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Venumbakam Vijayasai Reddy is ready to launch an indefinite hunger strike to prevent privatization of the Vizag Steel Plant, considered as Andhraites’ right.
The key question is what did Vijaysai Reddy, who has influential contacts in the political circles, do till now? During the five-year YCP rule, he could have put in efforts in his position to resolve the issue. When in power, the YCP government and its leaders confined to writing letters to the Centre urging it to stall the privatization process, only as an eyewash.
Then why this sudden protest? There is buzz that YCP senior leader YV Subba Reddy has been sidelined and Vijayasai Reddy made the in-charge of party affairs in North Andhra. Right from Visakha at Vizianagaram, Vijayasai Reddy will take decisions about the party, cadre and proceedings.
In view of the elevation in his political designation, it is being said that Vijayasai Reddy has decided to stage the indefinite hunger strike, to signal his take over to the cadre.
However, such inane feats, when in the opposition, do draw criticism. Certainly, this stir reflects the lack of commitment on the part of the YCP, rather than its dedication to the cause of saving the steel plant from privatization.
