Rajanna, Save your family from disrepute!

The unsettled property dispute between YCP boss YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister YS Sharmila has come into the open and become a public spat. The simmering rivalry between the mother-daughter on one side and son-wife on the other side is manifesting in various ways every day. The other day, Sharmila became emotional and could not desist from displaying her tears and choked voice, despite fully aware that crores of people were watching her on their mobile and TV screens during the press conference.

When former CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy was alive, the public seldom heard about his family members as their involvement in politics was rare. After his death and subsequent dispute over the asset distribution, his legal heirs Jagan and Sharmila are literally quarrelling in full public view, reflecting that the family is completely shattered sans human values.

YSR could never have had an inkling that his family would face such a situation, because he has the reputation of settling several property disputes relating to influential and wealthy families.

When property feud erupted in former PCC chief N. Raghuveera Reddy’s family, YSR played a key role in resolving the issue, with even their close confidantes not having any knowledge about it. It came to light only when Raghuveera Reddy himself revealed the fact in the past.

Similarly, YSR settled property disputes in families of Kanumuri Bapiraju, Parvataneni Upendra. Even disputes in YS Raja Reddy’s family, which is believed to be a very big one, were settled in complete silence, with YSR at the helm of affairs.

In the recent past, YS Vimalamma, the lone sister of YSR and YS Vivekananda Reddy, proudly claimed that there had been no major disputes in their family, even when it is a large entity. “We sit down and discuss issues in calmness without any animosity,” she added.

Cut to the present situation. Jagan and Sharmila are drawing swords against each other. Both of them are invoking the name of YSR and accusing the other of not following his mandate.

The public spat between the brother and sister could be a source of enjoyment for the rival political parties but nobody, including YSR’s staunch loyalists, are able to do anything to ease down the situation and bring the brother-sister to the table.

Jagan approached the NCLT seeking nullification of transfer of shares relating to the Saraswati Power to Sharmila, while the latter argues that assets were not distributed equally between them, as instructed by YSR.

In this backdrop, Jagan should rethink and do some introspection and try to rectify the situation. Else, he would lose credibility both politically and in his businesses.

He had been proudly declaring that he has been carrying forward YSR’s legacy but the current situation in which he and his sister are stuck showcase a complete different picture.

Sharmila is completely frustrated and distraught over the discrimination being shown by her brother.

It is time Jagan considers the issue comprehensively and try to placate and pacify both his mother and sister. Else, it is likely to push him into bad reputation as a man with no family and human values.
