Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, recently commented on Bollywood’s domination. Stalin criticized Bollywood for overshadowing other regional film industries.
He highlighted that while southern industries like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam are growing, Bollywood still significantly influences North India.
Udhayanidhi pointed out that some northern states lack robust film industries, leading to a reliance on Hindi films.
“Mumbai extensively produces Hindi films now, with Marathi, Bhojpuri, Bihari, Haryanvi, and Gujarati cinema receiving far less attention. Many northern states don’t even have their film industry,” he said.
Udhayanidhi clarified that Tamil Nadu is not against Hindi but opposes its imposition over other regional languages.
Indirectly criticizing the BJP, he noted that some “nationalists” are still pushing for Hindi imposition in non-Hindi-speaking states, which he believes could undermine linguistic diversity and regional identity.
However, soon after these comments went viral, the Tamil Nadu BJP Vice-President N Thirupathy commented that Udhayanidhi Stalin is a failed actor and is making worthless comments
