Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has announced the state’s electric vehicle (EV) policy, which aims to reduce air pollution in the state.
As per the policy, citizens will receive a 100% tax exemption on all types of electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and commercial vehicles. Additionally, there will be no registration fees for EVs.
Minister Prabhakar highlighted that this initiative is part of broader efforts to transform the transport system. Ponnam Prabhakar emphasized the leadership of CM Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka in making Hyderabad a cleaner and greener city.
The new policy includes plans to operationalize EV buses in Hyderabad and Secunderabad’s twin cities. A significant part of the policy is replacing 3,000 existing buses with electric buses in Hyderabad.
The policy will be effective from November 18, 2024, to December 31, 2026.
