TDP @ Nellore: From Zero To Hero!

Published by

It is no secret that the YSR Congress was seen as an unassailable force in the Rayalaseema region. In tune with this, the party earlier won 49/52 seats here in the 2019 elections. However, cut to the 2024 election, the NDA absolutely swept away YCP here and dismantled the party at every level.

Particularly, the Nellore segment which is historically with YSR Congress has completely shifted towards TDP now. After having lost 10/10 seats in the Nellore segment in 2019, TDP ended up winning 10/10 seats here in 2024 and is only going stronger further.

As a part of the membership drive that was initiated by TDP, Nellore is standing as the best-performing segment in all of AP. The Nellore parliamentary segment has the highest number of entries into the TDP membership drive – 2,15,000 which is the highest tally for any MP segment in AP.

From being a hostile place for TDP in 2014 and 19, Nellore has scripted a complete turnaround and is now standing as one of the safe harbors for the party.

Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, a cash-rich politician who was with Jagan from the start, got vexed by his operations and switched to TDP this time. In the election, Prabhakar won as Nellore MP while his wife Prashanthi Reddy won as an MLA and was later included in the TDP board.

It appears to be that attracting Vemireddy is the gamechanger for TDP in the Nellore segment and the numbers are here to speak for it. The fact that the Nellore segment gave 10/10 seats to TDP, followed by the record number of memberships could perhaps be hinting that Nellore is now a sureshot bastion for the yellow brigade.
