Acclaimed poll strategist and psephologist Prashant Kishor, who worked for several political parties in the last ten years and played an instrumental role in their success, received a huge shock on his home turf Bihar where his newly established ‘Jan Suraaj’ party made electoral debut in the recent bypolls.
It is quite an irony and also an embarrassment that Prashant Kishor, who used to devise successful strategies for political parties across the country, failed to make even a slightest impact with his party in the four assembly seats it contested in Bihar.
Prashant Kishor fielded his candidates for four constituencies namely Ramgarh, Tarari, Belaganj and Imamganj in the Bihar bypolls. Surprisingly, all four candidates lost with a huge margin. What is more shocking is that none of these candidates managed to give a tough fight to their rivals and failed to secure even the second place in any of the four segments.
While the BJP won Ramgarh and Tarari, Belaganj and Imamganj were won by JDU and Hindustani Awam Morcha, respectively.
In Ramgarh, Jan Suraaj’s Sushil Kumar Singh secured a paltry 6,513 votes and came fourth in the list. In Tarari, Prashant Kishore had fielded Kiran Singh who got just 5,592 votes. In Imamganj, he gave ticket to Jitendra Paswan, who also stood third despite getting 37,103 votes. Mohammad Amjad from Belaganj also stood third with 17,285 votes.
Prashant Kishor, who is popular all over the country as a reliable poll analyst, launched Jan Suraaj party in October this year. He has been preparing ground for the past two years to contest in Bihar general elections next year. However, he received a huge setback with these results because his party failed so badly in all four constituencies.
Despite this humiliation, Prashant Kishor is confident that his party would come to power in Bihar in 2025. He is currently holding meetings to improve the party from root level.
