Jagan’s Caste Comments : Self Goal Or Strategy?

Published by

AP CM YS Jagan’s caste remarks have kicked up a major debate among political parties. CM’s comments on alleged “casteism” during the AP Formation Day the other day have become a hot topic online. A social media war has emerged with pro-Jagan netizens locking horns with pro-TDP netizens on social media. While Jagan’s online supporters are hitting back at TDP, TDP’s supporters are trolling CM Jagan’s caste remarks.

It all started with CM Jagan’s casteism remarks during the state formation day held the other day. CM Jagan had stated that casteism is acting as a major hindrance for the state’s progress. He said that the state’s reputation is at stake due to “casteism”. He said the caste polarisation and open biasedness are affecting the implementation of Constitution and Law. CM said the people’s government and its decisions are being threatened by some individuals by “managing” Constitutional Institutions. CM Jagan also criticized that a section of the media is “biased” and “spreading lies” as their favourite was not in power. He questioned should we treat it as “freedom of press”?

AP TDP chief Atcham Naidu has given a befitting counter to CM Jagan. Atcham Naidu alleged that CM Jagan is promoting a particular community and acting in their interest. He accused Jagan-led state government of allotting 730 key government posts to the community belonging to CM Jagan. He said that BC and SC, ST communities have been grossly ignored under CM Jagan’s rule. Meanwhile, netizens and TDP’s supporters also trolled Jagan that his own media is doing the same.

While Jagan’s comments reportedly seem to be in line with the CM’s letter to the CJI and state government’s war with the State Election Commissioner, several political analysts say that the “caste comments” have intensified the ugly war in AP. The big question on many lips is whether Jagan’s caste comments are a self goal or a well-planned war strategy. Only time will tell.
