Finally, First Arrest In RRR Torture Case

The Andhra Pradesh police have finally arrested an ex-cop today evening in connection with custodial torture of Telugu Desam Party MLA from Undi constituency and Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju ( known as RRR). As per reports, former Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Paul, who retired from his service, has been arrested by Prakasam district police just a while ago after completing interrogation in the sensational case relating to the then Narsapur MP and YSRCP leader RRR.

Vijay Paul, whose bail petition was rejected by the Supreme Court on Monday, attended the SP office in Ongole to present himself before the inquiry officer Damodar. After grilling Vijay Paul for a nearly ten hours, the police have reportedly arrested him by following the due procedure. He will be produced in the magistrate shortly.

This is the first arrest in RRR’s case and is likely have strong implications because many others including former CID chief PV Sunil Kumar, Superintendent of Hospital Prabhavathi, former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy are facing various charges in this case. Following a complaint by RRR, who alleged that he was physically abused, bullied and tortured in custody of CID on a false case in May 2021, the AP police registered an ‘attempt to murder’ case against all of them after the NDA government led by Chandrababu Naidu came to power. Since then, the AP police have been investigating the case thoroughly.

Vijay Paul attended interrogation on November 13th but didn’t give convincing answers. He tried to seek protection by approaching Supreme Court to quash the police case filed on him. However, he didn’t get any respite as the two-member bench dismissed his petition.

RRR has been demanding the present government to take a stern action against the CID officials and those who were behind this entire conspiracy which appears to be done at the behest of the previous regime. Finally, there seems to be some headway in this sensational case. Vijay Paul’s testimony will be crucial and is likely to result in more arrests in the coming days.

RRR was arrested over charges of sedition and creating enmity between groups with his provocative statements by the AP police. Later, he was granted bail by the supreme court.
