Elections Are Back In AP: But War One Sided

Andhra Pradesh recently delivered a historic verdict entirely in favor of the NDA alliance as the voters gave a whopping 90% of the seats in the assembly to the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance. Incidentally, under six months before the completion of the assembly elections, the state is set to witness another election. But worry not, this isn’t a standard public election but instead an upper-house one.

AP will soon have its electoral roll for the Rajyasabha membership which is necessitated due to the resignation of three RS MPs who were earlier with YCP. These MPs are namely, Beeda Mastan Rao, Mopidevi Venkataramana, and R Krishnaiah.

Factually speaking, securing each of the Rajyasabha MP seats in AP requires 25 MLA seats. Considering this aspect, the NDA will sweep all three of the MP seats that are going for elections on the 20th of December this year.

While it is confirmed that NDA will capture all three MP seats, it has to be seen how the distribution will be carried out. Will TDP pick all three seats or share them with JSP and BJP? We will know soon.

Incidentally, YCP’s downfall started almost immediately after securing all 11 RS seats from AP as TDP was bullied into not partaking in the election. Now that YCP is ousted from power in a clear manner, the NDA will now sweep all 11 of the seats again in the due course considering their strength in the assembly.
