Charging More Than MRP On Liquor? Pay Rs 5 Lakh Fine

The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken up the new sand policy and liquor policy very seriously, knowing full well that these were the two factors that led to YCP’s historic downfall in the election. After the imposition of the new public-friendly liquor and sand policies, the government is actively bringing new reforms to make sure they are implemented in the desired manner.

Coming to the topic now, the AP government has started corrective measures on the liquor policy after complaints arose saying certain liquor shops were charging more price than MRP on liquor bottled. The NDA government came down heavily on these complaints and imposed a new punishment to curb the same.

As per the new G.O. that was released by the AP government a few minutes back, the liquor stores that are charging more price than the MRP will be fined a hefty Rs 5 lakh for the first offense. If it is found that they are repeat offenders, then the existing liquor license could get revoked.

The government has addressed the belt shops issue as well. If any outlet, other than the licensed liquor store is found selling liquor illegally, they will be fined Rs 5 lakh for the first offense. Repeated offenses could lead to more severe and concrete action.

These orders will come to effect immediately and this could come a long way in addressing the mentioned complaints. It is good that the government isn’t mum about the criticism and negative feedback and is instead proactively addressing them in an adequate manner.
