In a surprising turn of events, religious institutions, traditionally distanced from political affairs, are now voicing their support for the construction of Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
This is seen as a significant development, as even institutions like the Guru Raghavendra Mutt in Kurnool, which have always maintained political neutrality, have contributed ₹50 lakh towards the capital project.
The gesture is particularly notable because the mutt has no history of political involvement and typically remains distant from government decisions.
The Mutt’s head, Swamiji Subudhendrathirtha, recently met with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to present the donation and expressed unwavering support for the Amaravati project, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring the capital’s success.
Similarly, the Ahobilam Mutt also announced a ₹50 lakh contribution, showcasing a growing trend of religious institutions lending their support to the cause. This involvement comes in the wake of widespread public support for Amaravati as the capital, as evidenced by the donations from citizens across regions, including women, children, and even pensioners.
