Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made a witty remark that he lost his power after implementing power reforms in 2004.
He recalled that he actually introduced reforms in the power sector for the first time in Andhra Pradesh in 1998. “At the same time, I also took steps for setting up a power regulatory commission, a first of its kind in the country,” Naidu recalled.
After the power regulatory commission, several other sectors like the aviation and telecom also introduced regulatory commissions, Naidu said proudly.
Several people warned me that by setting up a regulatory commission in the power sector, I was treading a tough path and that the difficulties could even prove a threat to my future.
However, Naidu went ahead with the reforms and the regulatory commission.
Despite losing power in 2004, after the introduction of power reforms, I felt a sense of satisfaction, Naidu revealed.
This revelation helps the public and politicians know that Naidu has always set his eyes on development and never shirked away from taking steps even if the proposition proved detrimental to his party’s sustenance.
