AP’s Road Crisis: Will Chandrababu Meet His Sankranthi Deadline?

Published by

One of the many complaints against the Bagon YSR Congress government was that ex-chief minister YS Jagan was lethargic with his approach towards resurrection of roadways in the state. Many parts of Andhra Pradesh had hideous roads while public continued to suffer with the same.

Back in the day, Jagan used to come up with vague statements by saying that the road repair works will commence after the rainy monsoon season. This went on and on without the government, actually working on the resurrection process.

Now that the NDA government is in power, the larger consensus is that CM Chandrababu, who is very much aware of the public outcry would do the needful regarding the roadway problems. In accordance CM Chandra Babu promised to resurrect the roads by coming Sankranthi season.

Shortly after Chandrababu made an assurance on this problem, certain parts of Andhra Pradesh saw movement in the R&B Department as a fair few road repair projects were taken up.

However, the size of the operation initiated by the NDA government is not substantial enough. Going by the ground level reports from major pockets of Andhra Pradesh, the road repair works are concentrated in only certain areas and are not expanding to all segments.

It is true that the road repair works have been started at decent capacity, but the issue is that the volume of the repairs that are to be done is huge, considering the damage that was done in the last five years.

The NDA government must start a full fledged operation to complete the process in an expedited and effective manner by Sankranthi season, as promised by Chandrababu. The condition of the that roads, at large, across Andhra Pradesh is still worrisome and needs serious attention.

The principal reason behind the delay in the process could be lack of adequate funds. But it was Chandrababu‘s promise to replenish the roadways, and his word carries a lot of prominence.

This issue must surely be sorted out at the earliest for the public to start believing that the new NDA government is far ahead of the negligent YCP government.
