After building Cable Bridge at Durgam Cheruvu in Madhapur and proposed a Night Bazaar along 1300 metres shoreline of Hussain Sagar, the Telangana state government has proposed to construct a Steel Skywalk at Mehdipatnam.
The Steel Skywalk is proposed to ensure safe crossing of road for pedestrians at the busy centre. Currently, pedestrians are facing great difficulty in crossing the street near Rythu Bazar area at Mehdipatnam. Although Zebra crossing and signals are in place, pedestrians are having a nightmare in road crossing. Earlier, there was a foot-over-bridge at this junction before the construction of PVNR Expressway. Now, the government is planning to build a Steel Skywalk.
The Steel Skywalk is expected to be built at a stretch of about 500 mts. This is going to have 16 lifts throughout the half-a-km stretch including two lifts near the Rythu Bazaar. The Steel Skywalk will also have other provisions as a commercial building. The aim is to provide a good experience to pedestrians from the military area side towards commercial and residential areas in nearby localities including Asif Nagar and Gudimalkapur. With this, the existing bus shelters are also expected to undergo changes.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said to have approved the designs of the Steel Skywalk and HMDA is soon going to call for bids for the proposed project. HMDA is going to build this at an estimated cost of Rs 34.28 Crore.
