The “Hydra” operation, which has shaken Telangana politics and affected the common people, has taken many twists and turns.
The main objective of the government, led by Revanth Reddy, was to transform Hyderabad into a beautiful, green city by clearing encroachments along the Musi River.
As part of this effort, the “Hydra” operation was launched in June of the previous year. It began functioning a month later and resulted in the demolition of several prominent properties, including an event center owned by Akkineni Nagarjuna. In addition, several poor people’s homes were also targeted for demolition.
This led to several accusations and criticisms. However, CM Revanth Reddy did not back down, and further powers were granted to the Hydra operation. To strengthen its authority, the “GHMC Act of 1955” was amended.
Section 374-B was added, giving the government the power to establish officials or agencies to protect lakes and properties. With these new provisions, Hydra gained extensive powers. After a brief lull, Hydra resumed its work recently, with the Hydra Commissioner, Ranganath, stating that certain limits would be set on unauthorized demolitions.
Now, in a new development, the government has decided to set up a dedicated police station for Hydra. The official order was issued on Tuesday morning.
According to the order, the police station will be located in the B Block of the Buddha Bhavan in Hyderabad. This will be the first time that Hydra will have its own police station, which will operate 24/7.
The station will accept complaints related to encroachments and allow people to voice their concerns. It will function like a regular police station, but with special powers to handle Hydra-related issues, as specified in the official order.
