On the occasion of Nara Lokesh’s birthday yesterday, certain social media groups associated with YCP launched a hate campaign using a viral video. This video, filmed at a ZP School in West Godavari, shows students sitting in a formation to display the message “Happy Birthday Lokesh Sir.”
Certain social media groups used this footage to spread the narrative that school children were made to sit out in the sun to wish Lokesh. This appeared to be a targeted hate campaign from the outset, but Lokesh responded in a mature manner today.
Firstly, Lokesh thanked the authorities and students for the display of affection. He stated, “I happened to see this. My heartfelt gratitude for the warm birthday wishes from each one of the tiny tots.”
However, Lokesh also showed his humane side by requesting the management to refrain from such activities in the future: “I request the school management not to make children perform such gestures. Children’s time in school is valuable and should be spent on academic and extracurricular pursuits that can enhance their learning and personality. I would be thankful if such activities are not repeated,” he tweeted.
During the Jagan regime, there were similar controversies, with school buses used to transport crowds to the CM’s public meetings. Often, school students were brought in to fill the arenas. Despite several complaints, Jagan never addressed the issue.
However, Lokesh was considerate enough to quickly address the narrative being built by the YCP. At the end of the day, students must always be kept away from politics at such a young age. It is commendable that Lokesh acknowledged the issue and urged the concerned authorities not to repeat such activities.
