Who Is the Real Opposition? Sharmila or Jagan?

On one hand, former CM Jaganmohan Reddy is demanding the opposition leader status from the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. On the other hand, he has shown very little effort to actually validate his claim to be the opposition leader.

Jagan has already called for multiple protest events in the last seven months of his tenure, but not once has he actually stepped out and protested against the NDA camp.

Meanwhile, the President of Andhra Pradesh Congress, Sharmila, is gradually stepping up her efforts. In fact, she has lined up her first major protest against the incumbent NDA government in Vijayawada.

Sharmila has called on her fellow Congress leaders and supporters to join the protest happening in Vijayawada tomorrow. The protest is against the delay in the implementation of the “super six” promises made by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu during the election campaign.

Factually speaking, it is Sharmila who is coming out on the streets to protest against the incumbent government ahead of Jagan.

The key point here is that it is extremely crucial for Jagan to capture every single anti-incumbency vote in 2029. This is the only way he can put up a fight against the strong India alliance.

However, if Sharmila can be more proactive and capture the anti-incompetency wave, she could easily siphon votes that would otherwise go to Jagan. Therefore, the first major protest being held by Sharmila tomorrow could actually kickstart an intense battle between her and Jagan. Every anti-incumbency vote that Sharmila takes from Jagan would be a blow to YCP.
