Telugu actor and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna was honoured with third highest civilian award ‘Padma Bhushan’ by the government of India this year.
He was recognised for his distinguished contribution to Telugu cinema in the last five decades and social service through Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital for the last fifteen years.
Cabinet Minister and BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy went to Balakrishna’s residence in Hyderabad and congratulated him for the achievement. He thanked the central government for recognising Balakrishna’s selfless service to the public through Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital and also in other fields.
Balakrishna said he is very happy to receive the great honour and expressed his gratitude to the government for acknowledging his social service to the people. He stated that thousands of people are being treated through his cancer hospital.
He also thanked Hindupur people for electing him as MLA for three consecutive terms. He said Padma Bhushan has inspired him to do more service and will be a big responsibility on than an award.
Talking about his father and legendary actor, Balakrishna said NTR is like a mentor for him. Balayya put an earnest request to Kishan Reddy as he recommended NTR for the coveted Bharat Ratna award.
He said NTR deserves the highest civilian award of the country and requested Kishan Reddy to consider his plea. He said it is not just his wish but that of the entire Telugu fraternity.
The demand for Bharat Ratna to NTR has been gaining traction from the past few months. Recently, Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan also pitched the same to Union Home Minster Amit Shah during his visit to Andhra Pradesh.
