Amaravati will soon witness the largest cricket stadium in the country being built on 60 acres of land in the Sports city area. The Andhra Cricket Association has plans to construct the big stadium, with a seating capacity of 1.25 lakh spectators, beating the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.
ACA President and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath said that they asked the state government to show suitable land for the purpose. The stadium will be in the Sports City planned in 200 acres of land. The MP said that financial assistance will be sought from the Board of Control for Cricket in India and more funds would also be raised locally.
The stadium will not only redefine cricket infrastructure in the country but also put Amaravati on the global sporting map, he said.
It is also likely that the stadium will host the 2029 National Games in Amaravati.
The MP also said that three cricket academies will be established in the three regions — North Coastal AP, Vijayawada and Rayalaseema — in the state. The academies will be monitored by former Indian cricketers Mithali Raj and Robin Singh.
The ACA has plans to modernize the Vizag Stadium and make it suitable for hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
The MP also said that local talent will be encouraged and equipped to take part in the IPL matches in the coming few years.
