CM Revanth Reddy called upon the government officials to be accountable and perform their duties with due diligence. He expressed concern that officials were not ready to AC rooms and go to field.
The more the officials become involved in their work, the more the benefits of government welfare schemes will reach the beneficiaries, he said.
Revanth Reddy was speaking at the book release function of retired IAS officer Gopalakrishna’s ‘Life of a Karma Yogi – Memoir of a civil servant’ in Hyderabad.
He suggested that officials should actively take part in the implementation of the programmes but many of them are not ready to leave the comfort of AC rooms.
The CM said that responsible officials are being given importance in government postings. The leaders can frame and design any number of policies but it is the officials who reach out to the people at the ground-level to ensure that the benefits of the policies reach them. People will remember the officials as they get in direct contact with them, he said.
The knowledge and power enjoyed by the officials should be of help to the poor, he said. By asking officials to go to the doorstep of the people, Revanth Reddy indicated that reality at the grassroots is completely different from that viewed on big LED screens.
On visiting the living conditions of the poor, the officials can tweak the programmes to suit the needs of the beneficiaries and ensure that the funds spent on the programmes do not go a waste. Instead, government funds are optimally used to give maximum benefits.
