The much-anticipated IPL season is just around the corner to entertain Indian cricket followers. Incidentally, the city of Vizag is also set to indulge in IPL action this year, as Delhi Capitals has announced this stadium as their home ground for a couple of matches.
While preparations are already underway at the Vizag International Stadium, a political mess is brewing over this matter.
The local authorities recently removed the YSR name board at the YS Rajasekhar Reddy ACA – VDCA Cricket Stadium. The stadium has been given a new generic branding under the name ACA – VDCA Stadium. The YSR name that was displayed at the stadium has been removed.
In response, the YSR ecosystem is completely rattled and has now announced a protest against this action.
“The alliance government has severely insulted YSR, who paved the way for the progress of Visakhapatnam. The YSR Congress is staging a dharna to protest the removal of the name of the YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
YSR fans and party leaders are preparing for a movement tomorrow (20-03-2025) to inform the people about the conspiracy of this coalition government to erase the traces of YS,” a statement from YCP read.
This protest is against the removal of the YSR name from the cricket stadium in Vizag. However, the timing of the protest could not be worse. The first match is scheduled to be played at the Vizag Stadium on March 24, and just prior to that, a political warfare surrounding the issue does not paint a good picture for the stadium.
It is also noteworthy that the YSR Congress ecosystem had previously taken pleasure in removing the NTR name from the Health University in Vijayawada during Jagan’s tenure as CM. TDP supporters are now saying they are getting a taste of their own medicine with this issue.
