Online Betting: What Did CBN Say? What Did Center Say?

Published by

By now, everyone knows that this online betting culture that has been tormenting the current social media generation is claiming many innocent lives. Many younger generation individuals are falling in this strap and losing big money and subsequently several of them are ending their lives, unable to bear the losses.

The main reason for this is that online betting applications and websites have become extremely easy to access and use. In this context, the Telangana government has started to crack down on these platforms and CM Revanth Reddy announced that an SIT will be formed to mitigate this situation.

Now, it is the turn of Union Railway and Information & Broadcasting minister Ashwini Vaishnav to react on this matter. He stated that the centre does not have exclusive jurisdiction over online betting platforms. He advised state governments to take complete control of this scenario and form their regulations based on prevailing situation.

On this note, Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu had also issued tentative guidelines. Babu hinted about a possible new restriction and organised regulation against online betting to curb the spread of the same. He pointed out that such financial irregularities that affect the common folk must be dealt with in a priority manner.

Now that the central government has instructed state governments to form their own regulations on this burning topic, the chief ministers of both Telugu states are starting to take proactive steps, which is a good thing.
