On one hand, the President of the United States, Donald Trump has been imposing stern regulations on illegal immigration policies. He has been driving out immigrants in the United States through special flights and forced measures.
Meanwhile, India has also done something of this proportion as the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, was passed in the Lok Sabha today, upon the presentation by Union Home Minister Amir Shah.
This is a new bill that is intended to streamline the immigration policy in India. It also facilitates the establishment of a Bureau of Immigration to oversee visa issuance and entry processes. Henceforth, foreigners are classified into six categories – tourists, students, skilled workers, business visitors, refugees, and illegal immigrants.
From now on anyone who is entering, India must secure prior visa and come with valid documents. Anyone who enters the country illegally will be fined upto Rs 5 lakh and might also have to serve 5 years in jail.
Also, anyone who is found with a fake visa or passport will be find ₹10,00,000 and they could face up to 7 years in prison.
This bill was passed in the Lok Sabha and it awaits legal scrutiny in the Rajya Sabha, which will happen soon. And once that is done, it will be presented in front of the president for approval. This is going to be a long legal process, and there is no confirmed timeline on when this could come to implementation exactly.
