Taking a U-turn, Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) president Nitish Kumar said that his remarks were misinterpreted and that the Bihar Assembly elections 2020 were not his last polls.
On the last of campaigning for the Bihar polls, Nitish, while addressing a public meeting at Purnia district, said that ‘all’s well that ends well’ and urged the voters to put the ‘garland of victory’ on the NDA coalition in his last polls. “Jan leje aaj chunav ka aakhri din hai aur parson chunav hai aur ye mera antim chunav hai. Ant bhala, to sab bhalla (Today is the last day of electioneering and the day after is the election. And this is my last election. If the end is good, everything is good),” Nitish had said in the rally.
Now, after the NDA won the Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in his first interaction with the media said, “I did not talk about retirement. In the last meeting, I always say the same thing at the last rally in every election that ‘ant bhala to sab bhala’ (all is well that ends well). If you listen to speech back and forth, everything will be clear.”
When asked about the oath-taking ceremony, Nitish Kumar said leaders of all the four NDA allies are likely to meet on Sunday to formally elect its leader. He said that he had not made any claims for the chief minister post.
Earlier, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav hit out at the NDA, claiming it won the assembly elections through “deceit”. The Mahagatbandhan (Grand Alliance), headed by Tejaswhi Yadav, won110 seats of which the RJD bagged 75, Congress 19 and CPI (ML) secured 12. The Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India-Marxist won two seats each.
Meanwhile, the BJP bagged as many as 74 seats while the JDU won 43. The smaller allies of the coalition, the HAM and the VIP won four seats each. The Lok Janshakti Party, which quit the NDA in the state in the run-up to the Bihar elections, ended up with one seat.
