Telugu Desam Party supremo and Opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu’s tweet on ‘goondaism’ of YCP leaders against the police at TDP MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna’s office in Vizag met with severe objection from the police department.
Naidu tweeted a photo of a police and one other man beside an auto stating that it was shocking and horrifying to see what Andhra Pradesh has become. Naidu, in the tweet, he said, “the brazen attack shows the extent to which YSRCP goons have been emboldened. Even a police man isn’t safe in Andhra Pradesh anymore.”
Naidu charged the YCP men with causing injury to CI Immanuel when he prevented them from entering the office of MLA Velagapudi Ramarkrishna’s office in Vizag.
However, the police condemned these allegations and said that Naidu should refrain from spreading falsehood and go for #FactCheck. The police said that there was no truth in Naidu’s allegation that the YCP men attacked the CI. Senior police officials urged Naidu to stop spreading incorrect news as it would misguide the citizens and at the same time, demoralise the police.
Vizag police made it clear that the CI fell down and that his head hit the auto during jostling with the YCP men when they were trying to lay siege to the MLA’s office demanding his resignation for opposing the three-capital proposal.
The police said witnessing the cop falling down, a YCP activist rushed to help the CI and massaged his head and asked him if he needs to be taken to the hospital. The CI reportedly told the YCP activist that it was not serious and he need not bother to take him to the hospital. Later, the CI thanked the YCP activist.
The YCP activist who helped the CI also spoke to the media and said that he only tried to confirm that the police officer was not hurt.
Later, TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh tweeted: “Are you not ashamed to say that you got massaged by YCP men even after being hit by the ruling party activists? The police had mortgaged the respect of the department at Jagan’s feet. Some police are swooping down to very low levels to appease the ruling party leaders.”
Lokesh alleged that the police were issuing false statements about #FactCheck even while stating that some policemen were hurt during the jostling. “How were the police hurt and in whose attack were they injured. Did the CI hurt himself,” he asked.
He also faulted the police for not releasing the footage of the body wear cameras. This incident is likely to kick off another twitter war between TDP and the YCP in Andhra Pradesh.
