In a great honour to Telugu language, Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal government has announced it as an official language of the state. Also Mamata government has recognised the Telugu community living in the state as minorities and this will give the Telugu people a huge boost.
In the industrial corridor of Kharagpur, there is a huge presence of Telugu people. Also out of the 35 wards in the Kharagpur municipality, six ward members represent the Telugu community. Naturally there has been a demand from the Telugu community to recognise the people and language.
Taking their request into consideration, Mamata government has officially recognised the Telugu language.
However, the oppositions mainly the BJP is criticising the Mamata government that she took the decision only in view of Assembly elections which are scheduled next year.
