Telangana CM KCR seems to be going soft on BJP post the Dubbaka and GHMC elections. After his New Delhi trip, KCR has taken a U-turn on the controversial Farm Bills and has extended full support to it. And now the Telangana CM has taken another decision and it is to implement Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme of the central government.
The other day Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with Chief Secretaries of all the states on various infrastructure projects, the Ayushman Bharat and others. During then PM Modi is said to have asked Telangana CS about Ayushman Bharat.
Replying to the PM, Telangana CS Somesh Kumar said CM KCR has decided to implement Ayushman Bharat in the state.
Earlier the TRS government refused to implement the central scheme for the poor by saying its own Aarogyasri was a much better scheme. However, Telangana’s Aarogyasri doesn’t cover the treatment costs for Covid-19 while the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme does.
So Ayushman Bharat will be implemented in Telangana by dovetailing it with its own Aarogyasri health scheme which will be able to extend affordable and much needed healthcare to a larger number of the poor.
