Shocking fire accident marred the Serum Institute of India (SII) plant which is producing the Covishield, India-made Corona Virus vaccine. Five people have been lost their lives in this tragedy. Fire broke out today at the Serum Institute’s Pune Plant that took the lives of five persons.
Meanwhile, new fire broke out again in one compartment of the same building at SII, Pune. Efforts are underway to control the fire. Fire department officials have rushed to the spot. Emergency services are in place.
Serum Institute India’s CEO Adar Poonawalla called the tragedy as unfortunate. He however assured the state governments and people that there would be no loss of Covishield vaccine production. “I would like to reassure all governments & the public that there would be no loss of #COVISHIELD production due to multiple production buildings that I had kept in reserve to deal with such contingencies at @SerumInstIndia. Thank you very much @PuneCityPolice & Fire Department,” wrote Adar Poonawalla.
“We have just received some distressing updates; upon further investigation we have learnt that there has unfortunately been some loss of life at the incident. We are deeply saddened and offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the departed,” he added.
