One of the highest civilian Awards of the country, Padma Awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day, like every year.
The President of India has approved the conferment of 119 Padma Awards including 1 duo case. The late legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was conferred with Padma Vibhushan, in the Posthumous awardees category, for his exceptional and distinguished service in art.
SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away on September 25 2020 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai after testing positive for Covid-19.
Senior singer K S Chitra has been conferred with Padma Bhushan award. Other popular politician Sumithra Mahajan has been conferred the Padma Bhushan Award, while Late Tarun Gogoi and Late Ram Vilas paswan also will be awarded with Padma Bhushan Awards in Posthumous category.
There are 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan, and 102 Padma Shri Awards this time. 29 of the awardees are women and 10 persons from the category of Foreigners. 16 Posthumous awardees and 1 transgender awardee.
These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/April every year.
