Congress MLC Prakash Rathod faced some embarrassing moments when he was caught on camera browsing through videos and pictures on his mobile during the legislative council session in Bengaluru on Friday. Use of cell phones in the House is prohibited and in the footage shot by television channels, some of the content was adult. However, the MLC denied of watching objectionable content.
The video showing the MLC, who is also the spokesperson of the Karnataka Congress, watching the mobile has gone viral. Reacting on the incident, Rathod said that he was deleting messages to free up space on his mobile when some TV channels recorded it and claiming that he was viewing objectionable content. A senior official of the council said that Rathod breached the no-phone rule and that he could be penalised for it.
Nine years ago, three BJP ministers in the BS Yeddyurappa government were caught watching a porn clip in the Assembly and two of the three were forced to quit. However, the three ministers claimed that they were watching footage prepared for a discussion on ill-effects of a rave party.
After this incident, legislators and mediapersons were barred from using phone in Assembly and Council. A rule has been passed that members should deposit their mobile phones in lockers before entering the Assembly or Council.
