This picture of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the hospital bed could just be the most significant and defining moment of the ensuing general elections in the state. The firebrand CM was hospitalised last night after she was reportedly attacked by 4-5 men while she was coming out after performing a puja at a local temple in her Nandigram constituency.
Mamata said that 4-5 people pushed her against her car and closed the door on her when her security personnel were not in her vicinity. Mamata reportedly sustained injuries in her left leg and suffered severe pain in the waist. Doctors who are treating Mamata told the media that she is visibly shaken and shocked after the incident.
The already intense Bengal elections have heated up to an all-time high after yesterday’s attack on Mamata. For the last few weeks, several national BJP leaders, including PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath, and several state-level leaders have been attacking Mamata from all quarters. And Mamata has been single-handedly fighting to prevent the BJP from forming the government in the soon-to-commence elections that are scheduled to take place over a period of one month.
