India seems to be witnessing a new wave of Covid. As many as 35,871 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country in last 24 hours and this was corroborated by the Union Health Ministry. This is the highest daily spike seen in 2021.
Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country as it reported over 23,000 cases i.e about 65 percent of fresh cases are reported from the state. Meanwhile, Punjab is also witnessing surge in Covid cases.
With the addition of fresh cases, the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the country touched 1,14,74,605 including 1,52,364 active cases and 1,10,63,025 recoveries.
According to a central team that visited Maharashtra between 7th March to 11th March, the state is at the beginning of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that quick and decisive steps are needed to immediately stop the emerging second wave of Covid-19.
PM has interacted with the CMs via videoconference. He said 70 districts of the country reported 150 per cent increase in Covid-19 cases in last few weeks. These figures are startling.
