It’s been over 4 years since the shocking demise of former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa. However, the legendary actor-politician continues to be an influential force in Tamil politics. Now, her ‘mysterious death’ has become a main weapon for the opposition party DMK to corner the ruling AIADMK in the ongoing campaigns ahead of the general elections.
Recently, DMK Chief and the party’s CM candidate MK Stalin alleged that the AIADMK government had not carried out a proper investigation into the death of Jayalalithaa. Stalin had alleged that the role played by the Mannargudi family of VK Sasikala and her nephew and AMMK party head TTV Dhinakaran in Jayaa’s death most be thoroughly probed.
Stalin went on to say that once his party is voted to power, it will order an impartial inquiry into the mysterious circumstances that led to Jayaa’s death. Kollywood hero and Stalin’s son Udayanidhi Stalin on Sunday resonated with his father’s statements and told the media that his party will definitely raise Jayalalithaa’s death topic in all its election campaigns.
On the other hand, AIADMK Chief and Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami and Deputy CM Paneerselvam retorted saying that the AIADMK government had constituted a single judge commission led by the former Madras High Court Judge Justice Arumughaswamy. The AIADMK even urged the TN Election Commission to stop the DMK and its leaders from mentioning Jayalalithaa’s death in their campaigns.
Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on September 22, 2016 due to acute dehydration. After battling for 75 days, the firebrand politician breathed her last on December 5, 2016.
