AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has inaugurated the Orvakal Airport in Kurnool some time back and announced that his government is naming the airport after Telugu freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. This is the sixth airport in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Spread across 1008 acres, the airport was constructed with a budget of Rs 153 crore. Speaking Jagan said, “Just a month before the 2019 elections, the previous government hosted a ribbon cutting program and bluffed the people. But our government has taken up the construction and completed it at a war-footing manner in just 18 months.”
Adding Jagan said, “India got freedom in 1947 but way before Gandhi or any one, one man stood by the farmers of this region against the British. He raged the first Independence fight and he is Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. So we are naming the airport of this great freedom fighter. This day will be etched in the history of Kurnool.”
Jagan also appreciated the ministers and officials who have worked tirelessly for the approvals from ATC and DGCA to begin the operations in this airport.
The commercial flight operations from this new airport will commence from March 28th and IndiGo Airlines will start its services to Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam and Chennai from this airport.
