The ongoing water war between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has escalated with both states blaming one another. AP has accused Telangana of constructing new projects on Krishna and Godavari rivers without permissions. AP complains that Telangana state is executing 7 new irrigation projects and some of them are affecting Andhra irrigation projects like Polavaram in downstream.
Meanwhile, Telangana too objected Andhra Pradesh’s scheme on utilizing Krishna River Water. In this backdrop, AP state government today has written a letter to Telangana state government.
Responding on AP state government’s letter at a press conference held today on lockdown extension till May 31st, Telangana CM KCR acknowledged that the state has received letter from AP government. He said he doesn’t want to get into controversies right now and said he would respond on the letter later after going through the letter.
Meanwhile, KCR said he and his government have full clarity when it comes to water sharing. He added that the Telangana government has crystal clear understanding on water sharing. KCR said both the Telugu states have come to terms to obey and practice water sharing rules that were officially allotted in the undivided state. He said all the new projects that are being constructed are all as per the rules framed during undivided state.
CM KCR said everyone should follow this. He said he doesn’t want to elaborate on the topic more and doesn’t want to create any unwanted controversy. He indicated that Telangana is expecting that AP state government too would abide by it.
