In a startling decision, the Opposition TDP has decided to boycott the MPTC and ZPTC elections, scheduled to be held soon under the supervision of new SEC, Nilam Sawhney, who worked as the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh.
The TDP has decided to abstain from the elections as a mark of protest against the violence ‘propagated’ by the ruling YCP during the elections held previously.
The TDP leaders are of the opinion that the ruling YCP which had its own way of threatening the candidates of other parties during the tenure of SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, who tried to put a check to it at least to some extent, would make the elections unilateral under the new SEC Sawhney, as she is already used to the ways and means of the party.
The TDP leaders said that they have taken this decision to make it clear that the elections will not be held in a free and fair manner.
Meanwhile, Nilam Sawhney, who resigned to her CS post and took charge as the SEC, held a meeting with the collectors and SPs to issue directions for conducting polls in a smooth manner. Significantly, CS Adityanath Das and DGP Gautam Sawang also attended the conference.
She enquired the officials about the Covid-19 situation in the state. The new SEC would hold a meeting with the political parties on Friday.
