The polling for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry states got underway this morning. The state of Tamil Nadu is going polling in a single phase and people have turned in a huge number at polling booths.
However, ‘Chinnamma’ Sasikala’s vote has gone missing from the voters’ list. Sasikala has been casting her vote at Thousand Lights constituency for the last three decades and until the demise of Jayalalithaa, she was residing at Poes gardens in Chennai. In 2017, when Sasikala was arrested and sent to jail in a disproportionate assets case, the police took over Poes gardens and so Sasikala’s name was removed from the voters’ list.
Recently when Sasikala was out of jail, she learned about losing her vote right. She applied for the same but it got delayed and eventually, Sasikala could not case her vote in the Assembly polls.
Superstar Rajinikanth exercised his right to vote at a polling booth in Stella Maris of Thousand Lights constituency while DMK President MK Stalin cast his vote at Siet College, Teynampet and Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan voted at Chennai High School.
