Cry, my beloved country: Ex FM on Modi’s speech

Published by

This morning Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended the lockdown till May 3rd and this was expected. But many were expecting more from Modi. Due to lockdown, it’s the daily wage workers and poor people who are more affected. In order supplement them, Modi did not make any statement.

This has irked the oppositions especially the Congress party. Former Union Finance minister Chidambaram though backed the lockdown, criticized PM Modi for not making statement for the people.

In a series of tweets, Chiddu targeted Modi. “The poor have been left to fend for themselves for 21+19 days, including practically soliciting food. There is money, there is food, but the government will not release either money or food. Cry, my beloved country,” tweeted Chidambaram.

The Congress leader also added that there is money and food supplies but Modi government did not release them. In fact, experts like Raghuram Rajan, Prabhat Patnaik suggestions have gone to deaf years, wrote Chidambaram.

Tomorrow the Modi sarkar will release a few guidelines for lockdown and hopefully there will be something in for the poor.
