The PG medical entrance examination, NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) has been postponed, announced union health minister Harsha Vardhan. “In light of the surge in #COVID19 cases,GoI has decided to postpone #NEETPG2021 exam which was earlier scheduled to be held on Apr 18. Next date to be decided later. Decision has been taken keeping wellbeing of our young medical students in mind,” tweeted the union minister taking to Twitter.
This decision on NEET was taken a day after the CBSE Class 10 Exams were cancelled while Class 12 Exams were postponed. Earlier in the day a group of student doctors moved the Supreme Court on Thursday requesting the court to push NEET exam in view of Covid-19 second wave. But by evening the Centre had taken the decision.
NEET is for doctors seeking admission in MS, MD courses. The examination was earlier scheduled to be held in January but was postponed because of the pandemic and for the second time, it got deferred.
Until the cases tally come down in the country, exams are unlikely to be hit.
