As India is seeing unprecedented and unimaginably huge spike in coronavirus cases, France stepped forward to lend support to India’s battle against the deadly infection. French President Emmanuel Macron said that he stands in solidarity with India which reported over three lakh cases in 24 hours in a row.
“I want to send a message of solidarity to the Indian people, facing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases. France is with you in this struggle, which spares no one. We stand ready to provide our support,” French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain tweeted Macron’s message today.
In the last 24 hours, India recorded 3,32,730 new COVID-19 cases with 2,263 fatalities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the second wave in India a “toofan” (storm) that is sweeping the country with horrific memories. The chronic shortages of beds and oxygen across the nation are making the COVID-19 situation worse.
Simultaneously, many countries like the US, Canada, Hong Kong have imposed travel restrictions on travellers from India, imposing level 4 i.e., high-level warning. On Wednesday, France said it will impose a 10-day quarantine for travellers arriving from India. Also, the UAE decided to ban travel from India for 10 days from Sunday. Of late, even UK added India to its travel “red list” after reporting 103 cases of a coronavirus variant first identified in India.
