Delhi Records 12 Deaths Per Hour, Hyd 115 In A Day

Amid acute shortage of medical oxygen during the second wave of Covid-19, Delhi registered a rise in the hourly deaths to over 12 since Monday last week from about five recorded the earlier week, according to official data.

Also, the national capital bore the brunt of pandemic recording more than 23,500 fresh cases every day since last Monday.

As per the government data, Delhi reported over 1,777 deaths between Monday and Saturday (April 19 and 24), which means 12 deaths occurred per hour on an average. Last week (from April 12 to 17), Delhi reported 677 deaths – about five deaths per hour.

Last week, the number of deaths on an hourly basis was more than 10 on an average.

Last Monday, the city reported 240 deaths – 10 deaths per hour on an average which jumped to 12 deaths per hour on an average on Tuesday with the city recording 277 deaths in 24 hours.

Last Wednesday, the city saw 249 deaths, less than the previous day, making it over 10 deaths per hour on an average again. From Thursday, Delhi reported more than 300 deaths per day. On Friday and Saturday, the toll was more than 345.

On Thursday, over 306 deaths were reported which counted to 13 deaths per hour on an average. This increased to 348 deaths on Friday – about 15 deaths per hour on an average.

For residents of Delhi, last Saturday was the worst day since the beginning of the pandemic in terms of daily deaths as the city reported 357 deaths in 24 hours, taking the average to 15 deaths per hour.

Since last Monday, a total of 1.51 lakh cases have been reported in Delhi, making it 1,051 cases per hour on an average. On Tuesday, the city reported record number of cases in a day – 28,395, which meant 1,183 cases per hour on an average.

Last Thursday, the metropolitan reported the second highest cases — 26,169 and on this day, the per hour average was 1,090 cases. On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, the city reported over 24,000 cases each day – nearly 1,000 cases per hour on an average.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, it was reported that there were 115 deaths on a single day due to Covid-19. From 6 pm last Saturday to 6 pm on Sunday, over 75 patients died at Gandhi and 40 people succumbed to the infection at TIMS in Gachibowli.

According to reports, over 205 people died at Gandhi in the last three days, 62 on Friday, 68 on Saturday and 75 on Sunday. Around 40-75 people reportedly lost their life on a daily basis.

The increasing number of cases is delaying the registration process at Gandhi and ambulances are queueing up at the government healthcare facility.
