Even as the ruling TMC is leading over opposition BJP, West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamta Banerjee is trailing in Nandigram Assembly constituency.
Mamta’s former aide, opponent and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari is leading by over 8000 votes. These are the early trends. It is to be noted that the counting is still underway and the result may swing eitherways.
Suvendu had won Nandigram in 2016 on TMC ticket. But Nandigram has been a bastion for the Trinamool Congress as the party has been winning the constituency since 2009. Suvendu had parted ways with TMC and joined BJP ahead of polls.
BJP leaders Babul Supriyo and Swapan Dasgupta are also trailing in Tollygunge and Tarakeswar, respectively. BJP has got an edge in northern Bengal whereas TMC proved its hold in southern Bengal where it has stronghold.
Meanwhile, Of the 292 out of 292 constituencies, TMC is leading in 202 constituencies whereas BJP is leading in 88 constituencies and CPM, others are leading in 1 constituencies. The election was held in 8 phases for the 292 constituencies.
