Super-spreader: Thousands Attend A Cleric’s Funeral In UP

The covid cases and deaths are on a huge surge in the country. Each state is fighting in its own way to survive and fight back the virus spread. But here is yet another super-spreader in UP. The funeral of a Muslim cleric in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun was attended by tens of thousands on Sunday.

The cleric, Abdul Hamid Mohammad Salimul Qadri died on Sunday afternoon. Within hours, thousands gathered at the mosque, violating all Covid safety rules and also ongoing lockdown. The mass gathering is seen in the scary visuals from the ariel view.

The visuals of the video are now scaring the officials about the virus spread and the sudden spike in the number of infections is likely. The UP government restricted the number of people at funerals to 20 and the penalty for not wearing a mask is Rs 1000 the first time and Rs 10,000 from the second time.

The cases have been filed against unknown people under the Epidemics act. The officials are trying to find the evidence from the video and planning to take strict action against the violators. UP is reporting more than 20,000 Covid cases each day.
