In an upsetting development, only Telangana state has been given a minuscule amount of vital Covid19 drugs among all other South Indian states. The Centre released the newly revised allocation on Tuesday which mentions that Telangana was given only 675 doses of the Tocilizumab drug, a medicine used in emergency cases.
However, all other southern States have received the drugs in copious amounts. Even Andhra Pradesh has received 2,040 vials of the medicine. Talking about other Southern states, Karnataka has received 6,150 vials, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have received 1,640 and 4,500 vials respectively. It is believed that the small amounts of drugs are given to Telangana as a grave repercussion of hiding cases by the State’s health bulletin.
The likeliness of showing fewer cases than the number of patients coming to hospitals could be the reason behind allotting tiny drug supply. The Central government’s note from the Department of Pharmaceuticals reads, “The distribution is being done taking into account only the recent active caseloads in the states.”
Not so long ago, the Telangana state was on the same page when Remdesivir was allocated to state shares. In fact, along with Remdesivir, oxygen and other medicines have been given poorly back then too. A group of doctors, both from private and government hospitals in Nizamabad claimed that unlike other states, Telangana was not getting a larger quota of medicines as it has been reportedly underreporting Covid-positive cases.
