Anandaiah’s Ayurvedic Treatment: Kotayya In Critical Condition

As we all know, Bonigi Anandayya, a self-proclaimed ayurvedic practitioner has been distributing his free herbal concoctions for about a month now to thousands of Covid-19 patients in Nellore district, AP. Many were seen violating social distancing norms with his super-spreader gathering and it became the main concern now.

Many people claimed that his medicines are working in raising immunity levels and in some cases, even among those suffering from breathlessness. A retired headmaster named Kotayya from Thinnelapudi village in Kota Mandel claimed that his oxygen levels have increased after using Anandayya’s ayurvedic medicines. Yesterday, he was seen promoting for Anandayya’s ‘now-believed’ quackery for Corona.

Kotayya was heard saying that he got recovered in 2 minutes after putting eye drops recommend by Ananandayya’s ayurvedic medicines. The man who came with a sinking state is said to have recovered in a couple of minutes, giving false hope to many people. But, another video shows Kotayya in a parlous state. He looks dangerously bedridden and unable to speak with critically low oxygen levels. The video is going viral and it is very much essential to keep people warned of such activities.

The second wave is a vulnerable state that needs to be tweaked in a meticulous manner. Anandayya’s medicines were not scientifically approved yet and what he is selling is not a magic bullet, especially when one has terrifyingly low oxygen levels. Anandayya is also not an authorised practitioner and people should avoid making an impulsive decision of living on them alone in these difficult times.

It is indeed saddening to see retired headmaster Kotayya in such a situation. Within a span of 24 hours, he went from a miraculously healthy man to a man fighting with inevitable death. Many such lives are being put in danger in the name of unscientific beliefs. Out of enlightenment, people are now showing outrage saying that Anandayya and others who has spread false propaganda that the percentage of oxygen in the blood will increase if you pour in the eyes should be held responsible. Also, a few demanded severe action against media channels that encouraged the practice.

With all the havoc, even lockdown norms have failed miserably due to the unimaginable crowd. Currently, Kotayya has been hospitalized and doctors showed concern over the interruption of corona treatment for more than a week now. A team led by Ayush Commissioner Ramulu Naik has visited Krishnapatnam village in Nellore district and interacted with Covid patients, who used Anandaiah’s ayurvedic medicine on Saturday. The place where Anandayya was distributing medicines has been seized and made him vacate place. Also, the ICMR team is yet to arrive and investigate.
