Why Gambhir’s Foundation Is In Trouble

Published by

Ever since he turned politician, ex-cricketer Gautam Gambhir always used to make it to the headlines with controversial statements. He showed a big heart in the pandemic by helping people with essential medicine supply through his Gautam Gambhir Foundation (GGF).

But GGF landed in a big soup when it was found out that it was hoarding drugs related to Covid-19 treatment mainly Fabiflu without authorisation. In fact Gambhir himself tweeted about the drug being available at his GGF and asked people who are in need to collect for free.

Just when any medical stores in Delhi are struggling to get this drug, GGF was providing at free of cost. Some netizens expressed their doubts and finally this matter went to the Delhi High Court and the court has asked the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for an explanation.

After a probe, the DCGI has informed the Delhi High Court that GGF was found guilty in stocking, procuring and distributing Fabiflu medicine to COVID-19 patients without authorisation. A report submitted earlier in the day. The drug approval body added that an appropriate action would be initiated against Gambhir’s foundation and also other NGOs’ which are supplying the drug without prior approvals from the agency or government authorities.

GG’s foundation offence comes under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act while the scale of punishment is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile Gautam Gambhir is yet to comment on the DCGI’s report.
