In what could be a huge setback for the AP government, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has written a letter ordering it to stop the works of Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation project. The KRMB has forwarded the letter to AP’s irrigation secretary which also included the photos of the current works going on at the project.
In the letter KRMB had asked the AP government to submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and wait until the DPR gets approved. KRMB also cited the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) orders on the project and also the objections raised by the Telangana government in the letter.
However the AP government has its inhibitions on KRMB. The government in the past added that a few members in KRMB are acting in favour of Telangana government and did not consider the requests placed by the AP government. On the contrary KRMB claimed that the AP government did not cooperate with the experts panel who wanted to visit the project.
This letter of KRMB comes just days after Telangana minister Prashanth Reddy made controversial comments on Rayalaseema and Pothireddypadu projects. As the work of Rayalaseema project picked up pace, the Telangana government immediately lodged a complaint and KRMB initiated a letter.
