The employees of NTR Trust Bhavan have reportedly written a letter to Telangana CM KCR, urging the state government to cancel the lease contract of the building.
Located opposite KBR Park at Banjara Hills Road No.2, it is one of the prime spots and until the AP Bifurcation, it acted as the headquarters of Telugu Desam Party. After the division, TDP established its party office in Amaravati and a majority of leaders moved to Andhra and with Telangana-TDP getting weaker, the NTR Trust Bhavan is mainly carrying out social activities.
In 1997, then CM Chandrababu Naidu leased out the land for 30 years for a nominal lease amount of Rs 90,000 per year. This lease contract will be expiring in 2027 but about two years back i.e, in 2019, Telangana CM KCR planned to cancel the lease. Reports circulated back then but nothing happened.
Now the employees of NTR Trust Bhavan have to KCR and in the letter it was stated that the lease contract was authorised only for social activities but in the recent past, many business activities are taking place in the Trust Bhavan. As there is a breach of the contract, the lease should be cancelled and the government should take over it.
The employees added that some of them are being harassed by the top level officers and a probe on this should also be done.
This is a big development and we have to see how KCR responds on this letter. As KCR had intentions to cancel the lease earlier, he might react to the letter and take appropriate action.
